Simply by taking a vow to treat others with honor. I find being nice to others in every exchange especially to those who serve us in any way - airports, sales associates, check out counters letting them know they matter and just asking them how they are today brings in the human element.
Isn't it amazing that one little thing can alter a person's entire day. These little acts of kindness done on a wide scale can grow into being one of the most powerful gestures we can make as human beings. It causes the ripple effect.
My friend Babette Donaldson and I have started The International Tea Sippers Society. We did this because we were upset by all the tea rooms/ tea businesses closing in the area and around the country. We want to bring tea lovers and tea rooms/tea businesses together and educate the world about tea. The society benefits both parties. For the customer, they receive special offers and discounts at participating tea rooms/businesses, plus the opportunity to take part in our new members only website. For the tea room owner/tea business, they gain new customers and repeat customers. It's a win-win for everyone. It's amazing that just in a few months time we have seen some big changes already. We're banding together and already have 6 businesses who have joined with us and 20 members already, just in a week's time-since we announced our new society. Our April 17th event, called The First Flush Gathering, has already attracted attention from some of the top experts in the tea world. James Norwood Pratt has graciously agreed to come and speak at our event. It's just amazing what you can really do when you put your mind and energy to something!
There are unhappy people all around for a lot of different reasons - some have lost their jobs, are ending relationships, are physically sick and some are just caught up in a downward depression. When we encounter people we don't have insight into their personal lives. One thing I always do is try to genuinely smile to everyone I encounter. A smile warms up even the coldest person or situation. You can even turn your own attitude around with a smile.
Social networking sites such as this one (Thanks Jody for creating it!) are making a huge difference for many! How else could you connect with so many wonderful, thoughtful and talented women so easily? The sense of community and the sharing of ideas empowers and inspires us to be better wives, mothers, business-women & global citizens.
I believe that change starts with me. Like the ripples of a pebble tossed in water, so is kindness!
