How can you set yourself apart in a crowded job market?

What can you do in today's job market to set yourself apart and find a job?
I have worked in staffing for 5 years now and as you all may assume, the market is bad out there! Our offices are packed everyday with talented candidates and many have been out of work for 6 months or more.

There are still numerous jobs in the market, but it is an employer's market because companies have the pick of the unemployement crowd. I am trying to come up with creative advice to give the job seeker.

Any advice?
